Cruzifictions
"You know I go into it blindly. I do not know, except for what I've heard about the New York City Marathon and just the sheer numbers - in terms of participation and the ways that the different communities get involved in the race - I don't know much, I've never done a marathon. I don't know what it's like to run anything more than 14 or 15 miles, but you start to hear stories about - again the ways the different neighbourhoods and the communities really step up and every corner has a band on it. You have 26 miles of constant cheering and applause for the runners. Hopefully in the last half of the race that will get me through." LA

After two treatments I now sum up: I see a 50% chance that I get through the marathon properly. Sorry, not more and no less.

The calf
Last week, in a loose Läufchen, they began the calf. Only slightly, nothing bad, but something unprecedented.
Today, a week later, she is "too", the calf. Harden well. Unfortunately, no phantom pain (or fortunately, because the calf is - clearly visible - still connected). Right before the marathon course extrem Sch****. Doch ich bleibe optimistisch, habe ich doch noch 10 Tage bis zum grossen Rennen. I keep you posted.

How Can I Make My United Mileage Not Expire?
Sub Elite
Selected Athletes:
Congratulations. You qualify as one of the top competitive runners in
the ING New York City Marathon 2006. At New York Road Runners, we
celebrate and applaud competitive runners like you. We stand in
admiration and support of you and want to ensure your marathon
experience is fantastic and as stress-free as possible.
As part of our support of competitive runners, in 2004 we established
the Sub-Elite Initiative, a unique program designed to give special
benefits to men likely to run between 2:20 and 2:35. Based on the
success of that program, last year we extended the sub-elite group to
include women in the 2:55-3:05 range. We are pleased to invite you to
participate in this year's Sub-Elite program.
As participants in the Sub-Elite program, we will provide you with the
following benefits:
1. Special transportation to the start as part of our pro athlete
caravan
2. A special staging and warm-up area at the start, away from most of
the other 37,000 participants
3. A completely clear starting position at the front of the race
4. Special baggage handling and transport from the start to the finish
5. Expedited baggage pickup at the finish
Here are the details of your program. Please print this e-mail and bring
with you to New York.
1. Pick up your race number and ChampionChip timing device at the ING
New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo as usual, with the
exception of Jennifer Denkins, Jon Clemens, Julia Stamps, and John
Traugott, whose numbers will be at the Hilton Hotel and Towers, 1335
Avenue of the Americas (between 53rd and 54th Streets) in room 4449.
(For more information on the ING New York City Marathon Health and
Fitness Expo, please visit
http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/entrantinfo/expo.php). There will be no
special stickers or markers on your bib.
2. On Race Day, Sunday, November 5, beginning at 6:30 a.m., a caravan of
six buses will be parked on 54th Street between Fifth Avenue and Avenue
of the Americas (Sixth Ave), across the street from the Hilton Hotel and
Towers (In case of inclement weather, meet in the lobby of the Hilton).
Go to the last two buses (marked "Sub-Elite") in the caravan, where a
race volunteer will check you off of our list. Bring everything you need
to run the race, including the clear bag given to you at the Expo. THE
ONLY BAGS ALLOWED ON THE BUS WILL BE THE CLEAR BAGS.
3. Before you board the bus, the volunteer will place a special colored
sticker on your race number. This sticker will allow you access to the
sub-elite baggage area near the finish line. Make sure you get this
sticker.
4. The buses will depart promptly at 7:15 a.m. for the start. If you are
not on the bus at this time, it will leave without you. YOU MUST BE ON
THESE BUSES TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE SUB-ELITE STARTING CORRAL.
5. The buses will travel with a police escort in our special pro athlete
caravan, and arrive at Fort Wadsworth at approximately 8:00 a.m. When
you leave your bus, turn left into the parking lot and you will see a
tent and staging area reserved for you. Volunteers will be on hand to
direct you to the right place. Water and Gatorade will be available.
6. At approximately 9:30 a.m., your bags will be collected and placed in
a special ConEdison baggage van so that they can be brought to the
finish line. DO NOT PUT YOUR BAGS IN ANY VAN OTHER THAN THE SPECIAL CON
EDISON VAN. You should now be dressed to run, except for a warm shirt
you can throw away.
7. At 9:45 a.m., be prepared to leave the staging area for the walk to
the start line. Race staff will walk you as a group up on the bridge for
the start. You must stay in this group.
8. When you get on the bridge, race staff will lead you over the center
barrier where you will be placed at the front of the Orange Start, just
ahead of the 3000 fastest recreational women runners. There is a small
amount of space for you to continue jogging and do your final strides.
9. By 10:03 you must be behind the ChampionChip mats on the Orange
Start.
10. At 10:08, the start cannon will fire and you will be running the
race.
11. When you arrive a the finish line in Central Park, please follow the
signs and volunteer directions for "Pro Athlete Reunion," shortly past
the finish line to your left. The sticker on your race number will allow
you in this reserved area to get your bag. There will be water,
Gatorade, and blankets on hand if you need them.
12. When ready, exit Sub-Elite Reunion and make your way out of the
park.

Location: My balcony
Origin: The former General PTT
Brand: state enterprise
Material: aluminum
Capacity: more than enough
In my possession just wanted to come with me ... the ashtray
price: been unknown to me for free
Comment: I'm a fan of simple design. The practical ashtray made of aluminum (robust!) with large capacity and marked "PTT" has done it with the same. As to his rightful place still the same model was available, I have decided to offer the ashtray for a new home. I'm sure it's him on the balcony like a lot better than the ugly smoking.

Kudos to Kona
My respect on this day passes to all those who can not stop, all the late thirties, who have no desire to make the youth court. But the youth let himself yesterday, not lumpy and did not ask for long. Even when apparently the 30 has to be, forward mitzumischen impressed this 25 year old Me:

Sure, he is a student, has no family and thus time en masse. Who but a closer look, discovering the special feature. be completed in a field in which successful careers, he's just beginning. With a sensational run. Many youngsters can swim and / or cycling. But for the lack of experience and drive aggressively. This is so important in Kona area is the old Dave Scott, Allen and Co. to leave. But Max has obviously already out. Respect!
Once a year I will be sad, even yesterday, it was way again. As much as I would finish an Kona with a strong run. Without stomach problems, right on exhausting the muscle borders. 3:05 or something like that, cycling to moderate swimming (not in the mood for training) and controlled. Fraesen race and the field. Next year I will be 33 on the day of the IM Hawaii. Too old, already one of those who "can not stop"? Not yet? So slot lottery? Rather Utopian.

phantom pain
"Expect the unexpected" would say the Ami and so I got myself this week of a runny nose and a Wade hardened enjoy. Instead of refining the remoteness of the village in Ticino, light jogging was announced. Towards the end of the week I was able to take advantage of the niegelnagelneue Kunstoffbahn at least for a few improvements. Speaking Kunstoffbahn in Ticino. A truly noble part! Never (!) I'm running on such a great track. Soft, fast and with little rain wet. Ok, only four lanes because of the lack of space in the hilly-mountainous terrain. But that's enough indeed. And next to the latest Prunkstueck: a 50-meter swimming pool with geleinten tracks. THE new training tip for avid triathlete (Pfingsten!).
And NY? Lance still claims never longer than 13 miles to be run. But he did before this weekend, a 20-mile, even though the right just before the marathon. His goal is still SUB 3. What we would like to call
Schumi: "Adieu!" Or "chin up, it goes on!"

birthdays like to go past times unpleasant. So yesterday happened when I had a nasty day drudgery. Well, that may Pasi. But at least I came to do in the lunch break Laeufchen. Nothing spectacular, as it is at its Birthday would have liked. Just a casual "one hour", unfortunately paired with latent hypoglycemia. As I slowly through the forest France is approaching, I knew that something must. This stream is so simple should not pass uneventfully. Here so long I no longer am. So I crossed the green line on the dirt road, stopped and "marked" the terrain. Once this was done, I returned to my still-country back.

3:12 - the second
Who would have thought it? New running mate, old time. It was perfect! In Cologne, I was 3:12 at the marathon distance move. This time with Jens, an old Trainingskumpanen from other times. That was for him not best time, but first and second, not far from the optimum of, what he could expect. For although he had completed enough long runs, but lacked the intense stuff there. His goal was a smoother run, which left forgotten until now in marathons ever held implosion of sub-3 trials. This is then compared with time-identical halves also succeeded in fully legal. Vll and is waiting on him also a sub-3 marathon around the corner.
Cologne or Berlin? Yes! :)

Who Broke A Bat Over Their Knee?
The Mile
"I'd be elated with something close to 2:45," he says. (Maybe that has something to do with the fact that former cycling pro Laurent Jalabert ran the marathon in 2:55 last year?)
Armstrong says he can maintain a six-minute mile pace on shorter runs, and he figures that at about seven-minute miles he can finish the marathon in just more than three hours. "That's in the top 200 or 300 guys," he says.
(...)
The last time he ran a timed mile, he says, was a couple of years ago, when he and former fiancee Sheryl Crow were visiting her hometown in Missouri. They went to the high school track, and while Crow ran stairs, he ran a mile in a cold rain. He clocked it at 5:13.
"But I was a professional athlete then," he says. "I didn't drink margaritas every night, either."
On Thursday, it didn't take much to persuade him to try a timed mile again, this time on the quarter-mile Austin High oval track.
"Let's take bets — how fast can I do a mile?" he asks, shucking off a sweaty black T-shirt. When five minutes is suggested, he takes the challenge.
At first, it doesn't look like he's going that fast. His gait is a little stiff, his chest forward. To hit five minutes, he can't take more than 75 seconds per lap. He glances at his watch as he makes the first of four laps. "Seventy-three seconds!" he shouts as he rounds the bend. He notches 72 seconds on the second lap, and 73 on the last two, according to his watch.
His total time: 4:51."

So how fast could Armstrong cover 26.2 miles?
"So how fast could Armstrong cover 26.2 miles coach? His, Carmichael says," Lance will probably rip me when he hears this, but I do not think he'd run faster than 2:30 to 2:40. "Allen says 2:20 to 2:30 Lucia says sub-2:. but 20 not sub-2: 10" What are those guys thinking "Swain asks." With his aerobic engine, Lance could run 2:10 or? better "

Long Run
I am often asked how long the long endurance in preparing for a marathon will actually be because of how many you should complete it and how often such may be on the program. As a lawyer I am, of course inclined to respond with an "it depends". When one here but the unfortunate Marathonschlurfer (target: Arrive) excludes, focusing on runners who actually run, are therefore clearly go under four hours, can the prevailing opinion summarized as follows:
The long run should be 35 km long and every 7-14 days to complete at least three month period made.
best there so far. Often the question is "rich and 30km". This provokes in me like the counter-question "why, you're too lazy?". If there is no valid reason for a reduction in the distance, you should run the 35km, from Km 30 because it is the first marathon so funny. And that you should be well prepared.
Why then not equal 42 or more miles? Absolutely! When I became a scheduled 35-thanks to the estimated distance of my running partner for a 40 and after the Berlin Marathon I will also benefit the Cologne Marathon as a training run for NY. I have also seen a number of training plans that recommend courses to 50km. Bring the
something or hurt the sooner? Who km large sizes or not for lack of life not tolerate km which can make it out. A real physiological benefit can be expected beyond the 35km little more. Only mentally still longer distances should be helpful because they often at least subliminal fear weaken existing before the distance.
I use marathons as "long runs" simply because it is very entertaining, travel the long runs, accompanied by interesting cities. In addition I have enough food, the kind of solid and liquid generally border as the ideal length of 35km 7km deemed likely to bring no additional effect on the damage they do to me well-trained state, however, just as wrong. It should be remembered here that I have a loose MUCH Marathon in just over three hours behind me. 3:30 He who belongs to the Group, who should probably keep the hand by a 42mm training run, because that would loosely completed last more than four hours and would probably be too demanding.
triathletes often argue that they train the endurance on the bike, so do not need long runs. That is, in terms of the cardiovascular system entirely proper. But beyond the 2:20 runners are fighting at the end of a marathon with more muscular limits, as the lack of air or racing pulse. Also a triathlete needs, therefore, the long runs to prepare for his running-specific muscles to the end of a marathon.
For my taste, you should complete the long run in the marathon week. Two weeks before the marathon can be like then reduced to 30km, it should but then undergo a progressive course that ends in the marathon goal pace (plus leakage). A week before the marathon, a 25-sufficient after the same scheme.

Shanghai Rummy Card Game
Morat - Fribourg
the second time I found myself at a Swiss run in the elite field again. This was due to my reporting time for the 73rd (!) Playing of Morat-Fribourg. I thought 17.1 km but probably complete in under 1:02 you to - that's the magic there - and was promptly provided with a race number, which bore my name rather than a number. Totally embarrassed, while I ultimately do not, but I have not reckoned with the host "mountain". Was flat in this run really nothing, and Fribourg is also some altitude of Murten. To one and a half minutes I have them in the destination wait for me (is that possible? Or do I say "goht no!"). I could sometimes easy breezy onto the pouring rain, running shoes heavy and also top runners such as Wyatt Röthlin or slowed. And I could say I was at least in the top 100, which are also considered "elite". Distinction was withheld at this point the number of non-registered before as an elite runner to me.
It can rotate or turn as you like, I had my fun! And not least because Dali me not only on the run, but even during the run accompanied - wow! Although it took until I got into gear, but then rolled it properly above all 'the hills. A recommended experience, this Läufchen 8,000 + runners. More than 53 CHF reporting costs (including registering late train trip) I have to complain not only because I, as a grafter for one of the sponsors was included free of charge.
The last word is now "Batcher" from the letsrun.com Forum, the question arises regarding LA:
"Will he need three English domestiques to help pull him up the hills [of NY Marathon]?"
